Junior – Blu Ray Review

Arnold Schwarzenegger was one of the biggest action stars in the world in the 1980s and wanted to try something different and he ventured into comedy films and had some successes like Kindergarten Cop in 1990.

In 1994 he teamed up with Danny Devito and director Ivan Reitman to make Junior, a story of a team of scientists who are working on a drug to help fertility. When the funding for the project is stopped they agree to secretly make the worlds first pregnant man and to carry on the experiment for three months. But thing don’t go as planned as side effects start to happen.

While the idea of a big macho man such as Arnold getting pregnant may seem comical it just does not work for a full movie and you are left with him getting symptoms such as morning sickness and being very emotional, which makes the viewing experience tiresome and at times embarrassing.

While the cast do there best it comes across as if they run out of ideas and is poorly constructed relying on slapstick from an accident-prone Emma Thompson as an example. A film that really should have been left alone at the concept stage.

The new Blu ray from Fabulous Films in the UK is struck from the same master used in the USA and other European countries and the image is fair, if nothing outstanding. Everything about the picture is ok, from colours to skin tones etc.

Audio gives you DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack but again is pretty average but serves the film fine. Extras are in the form of Interviews with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito, Emma Thompson and Director Ivan Reitman as well as a theatrical trailer.

FILM – 4 PICTURE – 6 AUDIO – 6 EXTRAS – 3
