Many action fans will be very familiar with the names of star Scott Adkins and director Jesse V Johnson, they have made a string of exciting and enjoyable action films together such as Triple Threat, Accident Man and Debt Collector but now they have made arguably the best so far, Avengement.
While released on furlough from prison, a violent criminal evades his guards and returns to his old haunts to take revenge on the people who betrayed him and made him the cold-hearted killer that he has become.
Supported by a great cast that includes Craig Fairbrass, Nick Moran, Thomas Turgoose and Kierston Wareing, Scott Adkins as Cain gets to show a much more complex character with real physical intensity, we see how he became the vicious killer, locked in prison with a price on his head, he has to fight to stay alive and finally escape to get justice.
The dialogue is punchy and witty, the violence brutal and no holds barred, it’s certainly not for the faint-hearted at times but fits with the feel of the film perfectly. The fight scenes show Adkins at his best, realistic and down and dirty, action fans will certainly not be disappointed.
A short and hugely enjoyable 90 minutes, I yet again look forward to Adkins and Johnson’s next projects and hopefully, their success will continue to grow.
The Blu-ray released by Spirit Entertainment in the UK has a striking 1080p transfer, clean and solid, certainly nothing wrong with the image. Audio has a fabulous DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track which comes alive in the many action scenes.
