Second Sight in the UK is again setting the bar high for horror movie re-releases with this limited edition 4K UHD and Blu-Ray sets of Talk To Me.
A group of high school friends discover an embalmed hand with the ability to connect them to the spirit world. They do it as a kind of thrill, as long as they obey the rules, nothing bad will happen.
They become hooked on the experience, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.
This is the directorial debut of twin brothers Michael and Danny Philippou, who previously had some success on YouTube. All I can say is that this is a terrific debut, well-acted, scary, and tension-filled.
Sophie Wild is excellent as Mia, a young lady who lost her mum a few years earlier and has trouble fitting in with the group around her. Her best friend Jade (Alexandra Jensen), and Jade’s younger brother Riley (Joe Bird), attend a party where the centrepiece is a hand that serves as a conduit to the spirit world.
This is where it all seems like harmless if scary fun, until Mia starts talking to her dead mother through another possessed person, she can’t let go, and things escalate quickly.
Some of the violence that happens during the possessions is hard to watch, but it’s not lingered on, which makes it all the more creepy. The sound design also really gets you involved, and thankfully, it does not just rely on jump scares.
While the story of using a Ouija board to conjure spirits is not new, the hand itself is disturbing and adds a new level to the horror shown.
Second Sight has done another great job with this release, a solid transfer with great colours, sound is, as mentioned, excellently used and comes across very well on this disc.
