The Warriors is arguably one of director Walter Hill’s finest films, a big cult following has grown around the movie since its initial release in 1979 and the director even did an altered director’s cut which most fans hated.
When a charismatic gang leader named Cyrus (Roger Hill) decides to bring all the New York City area gangs together as a joint force, nine representatives of each gang travel to The Bronx for a meeting. As soon as Cyrus makes his plans known, he is murdered and the Coney Island gang The Warriors is falsely blamed. Now the nine Warriors must try to make it back home to Coney Island before the entire city comes down on them.

Gritty and minimalistic, The Warriors is beautifully crafted and paced, the action is brutal and exciting with superbly edited set pieces. The music by Barry De Vorzon is now iconic and adds a lot to the film.
Arrow Video have now remastered the theatrical version of the film in 4K which has been approved by Walter Hill and released onto Blu-ray and UHD.
Fans should be delighted because the transfer is superb with great natural detail and good grain structure. Even tho the previous Blu-ray release of the director’s cut was a good transfer; this outdoes it in every way.
You have three audio options, LPCM Mono, DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 and Dolby Atmos. While the mono is great the Atmos track adds a lot to the sound and atmosphere, especially the music.

A fantastic release for a great movie which all fans should buy immediately. Sadly Arrow only had the right to a North America Region A release so you will have to import and have a multi-region player to view it, but its well worth the effort.
- Note – The two-disc release has a separate disc with the director’s cut included.
