Severin Films has released a new 4K remastered version of the classic action movie The Wild Geese, starring Richard Burton, Roger Moore and Richard Harris.
They star as a team of ageing mercenaries hired by a wealthy industrialist for one final mission: Recruit and train a squad of desperate commandos, parachute into an unstable African nation, snatch its deposed President from a maximum-security prison, escape via the military-controlled airport, and massacre anyone who gets in their way. Reaching the target will be murder, but getting out alive may be impossible.
The film also has a stellar supporting cast, including Hardy Kruger, Stewart Granger, and a host of recognisable actors, which gives you a classic slice of 1970s action-adventure.
The Wild Geese is both star-studded and exceptionally good. It has a believable, coherent plot that takes its time exploring the characters and their mission before the action sets in.
The action does get violent; if you have only seen this on TV, then you will now see all the small bits and the bad language that were normally cut out for broadcast. The humour is also very dark and very funny in places.
There are many levels to the film, such as true friendship and betrayal, disappointment, resourcefulness and sacrifice. All with great acting by all involved. The chemistry between the main actors is also very strong.
The new remaster is superb, rich with depth and great colour. Audio is great and bombastic, and the extras are exhaustive, in a 4K UHD Collectors edition or a standard Blu-Ray.
